How to Play
Rory’s Story Cubes couldn’t be any easier to play with - take your Story Cubes and roll them (or have someone else do it for you!), then use the face up images to tell a story. There’s no need to worry about being ‘right’ when you create your story - each icon is open to your interpretation, so how you see one might not necessarily be the same as someone else - and that’s entirely fine! Just draw inspiration from what you see before you and come up with a fun fable or notable narrative, then reroll and tell a brand new story.
By taking a combination of any nine Story Cubes from across the whole range, shaking them up and rolling them, you never know what incredible tales you’ll be inspired to create when you see the easy-to-understand icons! Whether you’re using the original nine cubes or a special themed set, let your imagination flow and get telling some stories!

The Play Experience
Rory’s Story Cubes were designed to give players the maximum opportunity to tell fun, speedy stories with little prompting. Do you remember when you were a child, and you were running down a hill and picking up speed, and going so fast that you either had to keep running or fall over? This is a good way to approach your storytelling with Rory’s Story Cubes. If you do it as quickly as possible without thinking too hard, you’ll be surprised by your storytelling ability.
Share Your Experience
People all around the world tell stories inspired by Rory’s Story Cubes every day. They’re told and then forgotten, as players always want to have one more go. However, sometimes an idea is so striking that its creator feels compelled to talk to other people about what they’ve come up with. You can share your stories on social media or roll your Story Cubes and post a picture online to see what that inspires in other people!
What Makes This A Creativity Hub Game?
Rory’s Story Cubes was the first game release from The Creativity Hub, and as is a prime example of what one of our games represents. It is truly universal, being language free and open to interpretation. Its fans range from 4-90 years old. There are no wrong answers, as long as you can weave what you see into the story you’re telling. As more and more sets have been released over the past few years, we realised that we have created a lexicon of storytelling, with hundreds of icons representing a wide range of characters, situations and items. It really does inspire creativity in others, something very close to our hearts at The Creativity Hub.
The Brains Behind the Games
These are the people involved in creating this game and what they wanted to say about it
Rory, Creator & Icon Designer
"I've always loved stories. What began life as a simple story-based creative thinking tool has allowed me to share my deep love of narrative with others and encourage them, in turn, to share their stories with the world."
Rob, Lead Icon Designer
"Working on the Rory's Story Cubes range was an amazing and challenging experience. Having to design icons that could be interpreted in so many ways into such a small space was a great way to develop as an illustrator and a designer."
